all that remains- belgium

workshop and performance

EurAsia Dancers Tejaswini Loundo and Sakshi Jain, both originally from India, started their artistic residency at EurAsia Partner Shoonya Dance Centre this April 17th.

All That Remains is a new work created by Tejaswini and Sakshi hosted by Shoonya in Ghent, Belgium, for a two-week artistic residency to work on their duet.

Tonight, April 22nd at 7pm CET, Tejaswini and Sakshi will perform a first studio of their duet at the Shoonya Studio Theatre, and then, they will keep rehearsing the new piece till April 26th.

“All That Remains”, talks about a culturally relevant idea about change and evolution being life’s only constants. It aims to question the idea of “the way
things have always been” . It questions how we make sense of our being through the imaginative lens of a folktale.
We were born with tails and they were a part of how we defined ourselves. The actions of a tail were a big tell about us. We carried, measured and even
compared their lengths. We played with them, and took pride in them. But as life evolved and the atmosphere fluctuated, it called for change. It was no longer easy to hold on to them, and the daring ones even attempted to move them from
one body part to another.

With the comfort of the ‘way things have always been’ now toppled, how did man as an individual and community face it? What happens when there is a shift in the balance? In change, do we gain or do we lose sense? Where do things lost go, or do they simply re-manifest themselves?
