OMMANIPADMEHUM
E.D.C. – EurAsia Dance Company directed by Stefano Fardelli / EurAsia Dance Project International Network ETS
OM-MANI-PADME-HUM which in Sanskrit literally means “honouring the lotus jewel”, focuses on the history and rituals of the Tibetan Buddhists of the Yellow Hat Order with a particular focus on their connection to the Shaolin monks and thus the study of their training. The encounters with the Buddhist monks and the martial arts students, the study of their practice and ceremonies are the foundation of the choreography. When the bell starts to play the rite begins, the dancers enter what could be a temple and lead us in another dimension and place, accompanied by the Francesco Ziello original music.
Hats, cloaks, a sun symbol of the divine, and the gold of temples are often rendered abstract by an aseptic architectural use of space and by string or orchestral music that creates contrasts between oriental images and western sounds.
To conclude, a multicultural cast that translates the movements of the Shaolin monks with different nuances that reveal the origins of the various dancers and thus a quality of movement linked to the traditional dances of the performers that influence, and give character to, the entire piece.

SVARUPA & VYAKTA
E.D.C. – EurAsia Dance Company directed by Stefano Fardelli / EurAsia Dance Project International Network ETS
Svarupa-vyakta is a historical piece of Stefano Fardelli’s repertoire, a highly successful solo that toured the world between 2014 and 2019, danced by Stefano Fardelli himself, and that is now staged again for a duet and two dancers of the E.D.C. company, with the new title Svarupa & Vyakta. The original piece is a solo inspired by a trip to India and means “Self” in Sanskrit in two different ways as different will be the dialectic created between the dancers and the five balloons, which represent the projection of the “Self” in another dimension.
The image that suggested the idea for the solo was born in Varanasi.
The image that suggested the idea for the solo was born in Varanasi.
The “self”, through the wire and the flowing of life, observes its own projection – as we observe our shade while we are walking, when we are able to see it. In the same way, in his choreography, the dancer dances and observes his shade suspended above his head – the balloons, tied to invisible wires, which represent “himself” in another dimension.
