A foreign land, whose name we cannot name, to protect the integrity of the choreographer and dancer from this not-so-faraway land.
Dancing is illegal in this country, the strict rules of ́Islam imposed by the political and religious rulers of the nation prohibit the practice of dance except for certain traditional forms.
When the audience is brought on stage, they are handed a semi-covering black blindfold.
Everyone knows that the dancer-performer is among them, but no one knows who he is, having entered from the ́outside also with the audience, precisely because no one cannot ́know who this brave foreign dancer is who must be kept anonymous to protect his identity.
Likewise, all the documentary material, photos and videos, were shot by placing a semi-covering bandage over the camera lens, to keep the performer’s identity hidden, but also to recreate the conditions in which the protagonist lived, the creative process and, perhaps, his daily mood which over the years has become “normal”.
EurAsia Dance Project International Network is directed by Stefano Fardelli.
